Route 66 in the U.S. is a world famous highway for many reasons. It has been dubbed the Main Street of America or the ‘Mother Road’ that runs through 8 States including: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California covering a total of 2,448 miles of road.
It was one of the original highways of the U.S. established in 1926, and today is as iconic and historical as it is useful and practical for drivers trying to get from one side of the continent to the other. For classic car fans, it’s also the road for the renowned Route 66 Classic Car Cruise to take part in! Something not to miss…
The Route 66 American Classic Car Cruise is a free and unrestricted event open up to any members of the public who wish to see a range of vintage cars that will be on display, take part in some fun family games or just sit back and enjoy the musical entertainment that’s put on show. The idea of the Cruise is to raise money for one or more local charities.
The event took place on August the 10th, at 10am, at Crestwood Court- at the intersection of Watson and Sappington roads. It proceeded on Watson Road, headed south towards Lindbergh Boulevard and ended at Sunset Ford. The entire show ended with a free concert at 7pm featuring the Ralph Butler Band.
The excess revenue generated by the Classic Car Cruise, as mentioned before, goes to a chosen local charity.
This year the chosen recipient of the event’s 2013 charity grant is the SAJE Senior Ministry. The details of the charity are:
* Formed in 2010 by the Episcopal Church of the Advent, St. Justin Martyr, and St. Elizabeth of Hungary.
* Provides health and social services to assist senior citizens in Crestwood and Sunset Hills, regardless of religious affiliation.
* Aims to help seniors stay healthy, engaged and independent.
* Offers programs such as health education, screenings, home visits and exercise classes. They also offer assistance with transportation and minor home repairs.
Last year the Classic Car Cruise raised money for the Children’s Tumour Foundation that is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families who are affected by the neurofibromatosis.
Not only does the event allow for classic car enthusiasts to enjoy a day of fun filled activities and the chance to see a wide range of vintage automobiles, but at the end of it, you know someone is less well-off is benefiting too.
