For the 25th year running, the annual ‘Autosport International show’ was held at the NEC, Birmingham. The show caters for every level of Motor Racing – from ‘Karting’ to ‘Drift cars’, ‘Historic race cars’ to ‘Formula 1’.
There were exhibitors ranging from specialist race suppliers to major manufacturers showing off their road and race cars as well asother attractions, including the loud and proud Live Action Arena andnumerous racing simulators. Walking through the many halls you really get the feel for a show that cleverly includes something for everyone whether you’re a sports professional or a motorsport fan.
The show gave us the opportunity to meet existing contacts, clubs and develop new relations. An example of this is a charity we currently sponsor, The Fire Fighters Race Team who race a 1978 Morris Mini. The car is used in many fundraising activities as well as Car Shows, Hill Climbs, Sprints and Races such as the Mini Festival at Brands Hatch & Classic Sports Car Club Swinging Sixties and Time Attack series. It was great to catch up with Dave, Stu and the rest of team at Stand 9405, hall 9. For more information about the charity here’s a link to their website: www.firefightersraceteam.com/
Other stand out cars were the Huxley Motorsport Toyota Celica RA28 on the British Drift Championship stand, the Lister Jaguar ‘Knobbly’ which was built from scratch using original tools as of 1958 and powered by a 330bhp Jaguar D-type race engine, a B+G Racing Mk2 Ford Escort and a genuine Paddy Hopkirk Mini.
