The Cherished Vehicle Insurance Services event season quite literally opened with a bang at Wartime In The Vale last week. The 25 pounder field gun used to launch the two day military show caused more than one of our team to duck and cover in surprise, much to the laughter of their colleagues. Wartime In The Vale is proudly sponsored by Cherished Vehicle Insurance Services and always proves to be really enjoyable weekend filled with ex-military vehicles and nostalgia.
The headliner of the show was Deborah II – the WW1 MKIV tank built from scratch by Guy Martin. The team from Norfolk Military Museum were on hand to display the beautiful vehicle and it entered the arena supported by a squad of able bodied reenactors in full service uniform.
The Alvis Fighting Society were on form with a fantastic display of speed and dexterity in their vehicles, proving that the armoured carriers are just as manoeuvrable in reverse as they are chasing each other around the track and through the pyro display.
For Cherished Vehicle Insurance Services, the highlight of the weekend was the support of the M18 Hellcat “Bronx Bruiser” parked up next to our gazebo. The old girl had many an admiring gaze and despite having some misfiring issues with her deactivated 50cal, was still able to outrun the AEC Militant in the arena. The Cherished Vehicle team were lucky to be able to ride on the “Bronx Bruiser” and as the tank thundered over the dry grass, we were treated to a Dakota flyby across the blue skies above us.
Wartime In The Vale is a perfect excuse to peruse some amazing ex-military vehicle collections, and our roving eyes spotted at least three Kettenkrads, as well as Pink Panthers, M3 Half tracks, Pinzgauers, Scammells, Hummers, Daimler Ferrets, plenty of Willys and GPWs and a fine collection from the Austin Champ Owners Club.
It was great to meet and greet our clientele, many of which have ex-military vehicle collections on our multi vehicle scheme. It’s always good to say hi to any members of the Military Vehicle Trust and we heard a lot of plans for the trip to Normandy which sounds like it’s going to be huge next year! A number of our clients mentioned they took advantage of our Member to Member cover to move their collections around the event, and we saw some great modifications and restorations that had clearly been lovingly finished.
